OFF SNOW REVIEW:
Unfortunately,
I do not have the pleasure of trying this helmet
on, as it is a little small for my head!
The Minimatic is a sharp looking kid's helmet,
though. One size fits kid's heads ranging from
49-54 cm. The broad range is achieved by including
an ample fit kit with the helmet purchase.
A total of seven pads of different sizes and shapes
come with this helmet, so you have a high probability
of fitting a growing head if it falls in this
size range.
An easy to use fast-tek buckle fastens a fleece
lined, adjustable chinstrap attached to plastic
covered earflaps. The earflaps have mesh holes
for better hearing and soft padding on the inside
for comfort and warmth.
The low profile, lightweight shell is sleek and
meets safety standards. The padding is removable
for post-season washing and provides warmth and
comfort.
If your little one tends to get warm when they
ski, be aware that this helmet has no venting
options. This is problematic for the kid who gets
too hot and wants to take the helmet off during
the day.
The Minimatic has a unique goggle retention system.
It has two rubber pieces attached to the earpieces.
They snap to each side of the helmet to hold the
goggles in place. I have not personally used this
goggle retention device but it seems logical,
as it is easy for kids to reach up to the sides
of their helmet and unsnap and remove their goggles.
Aside from the lack of venting, this helmet ranks
high because of its attractive shell and adjustable
sizing, (with the fit kit). I also think that
the goggle retention device is highly logical
for young kids with short arms and limited dexterity.
The K2 Minimatic gets a B+

Fit:
Kid's helmet. Would not fit my head, so I don't
know what the fit is like. What a bummer.
Design: This helmet is very sleek in
appearance. If I were a kid, I'd feel very fast
on my skis with this on my head. I like to overall
looks.
The ear flaps are a bit weird with an additional
strap that is buttoned from the flap itself
to the shell of the helmet. This appears to
be not of any use but rather just for looks,
and for that it looks cool.
The ear flaps also have cutouts to allow better
hearing so that parents yelling at their kids
will be heard, neat feature. Chin straps pads
on both straps are another neat feature, so
as to allow the strap to be a little more comfortable
against the face.
I also like that it comes with two different
size fitting pads to allow more room for growth.
The build is high quality, coverage is up to
standards, both of which provide the helmet
with excellent protection. Limited color selection.
Overall: I would have to give this helmet a
grade of B+.
This helmet will definitely do this job of giving
great protection without being too heavy. Although,
some other color selections or cool graphics
would be a nice addition.
