FIRST LOOK:
The camber looks pretty ordinary off the shelf with minimal features that jump
right out at you. The styling does look nice and the brushed fleece lining appears
to be comfortable. The price at $69.99 is right.
COMFORT:
4 - The Camber has just the right amount of padding, which makes for a very
comfy fit.
FIT: 2 -
I'm guessing that the Camber will fit a round head much better than it fits
my roval shape. My head measures 58-cm. so I went for the XL/XXL which is suggested
to fit a 59 - 62.5 cm. head. To my surprise the helmet was much too tight for
my head. As this is the largest size in this model I'm concerned that it won't
fit too well unless someone has a truly round head. It rides very high on my
noggin, which is the main area that causes discomfort. The chinstrap is in the
right place and the earflaps are tapered just right.
STYLE: 4
- The styling is fine. There is nothing flashy about this helmet but that's
what's expected at this price point. Let's make the comparison between a Jeep
Cherokee and a Grand Cherokee. They're both good vehicles but for the extra
money you get many more features. The same holds true between the Camber and
the Flint (also by Giro.)
FEATURES:
2 - There is nothing note worthy when discussing the features of the Camber.
It is missing many of the common features such as venting and adjustable earflaps.
CONCERNS:
There is no venting and it rides high on the head.
COLOR: The
colors are pretty standard in Black, Blue, White, Silver and Red. There is nothing
flashy about the colors but sometimes sticking to the basics is alright.
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
3 - Giro introduced the Camber as their price point helmet. In order to keep
costs down they only introduced three sizes which makes it more difficult to
get the proper fit. I would recommend jumping up one size when trying the Camber
as the fit is tighter than stated. If you stay warm when you ski be wary of
not having any venting. I appreciate the effort of creating a helmet at a lower
price but I think another year of development would serve well for the Camber.
I do however, feel that this helmet would be great for youth's as their heads
tend to be a bit more round in shape and generally they are cool off easier
than an adult. The broader size range with the potential of saving some money
over time having to replace the helmet could be appealing.
